and Mandy Smethurst devised the idea and
are calling on anyone with an artistic flair to get
The theme is the "teapot" and it is hoped
the garden sculptures will draw attention to
the teahouse and that the owners have been unable
to erect a sign in the shape of a teapot on their premises.
The competition is open to anyone. The only requirement is
that the sculpture must be at least one metre tall and resemble
a teapot. The sculptures can be made out of any materials.
Entries will be received on site at the Werai Teahouse &
Nursery until 5 pm on Saturday, September 12.
Judging will be done by the general public via a gold
coin donation. All the money raised will go to a local
The charity this year will be Exeter Rural Fire Brigade.
Voting will continue for a month and will conincide with
Tulip Time. Voting closes at 5pm on Sunday, October 17.
Mrs Smethurst hoped the community would get behind this
novel way of raising money for a local charity and have a
bit of fun at the same time."

novel idea -- a garden sculpture competition.
