Shop 2, High Street Bowral
Known as Wingecarribee, it was a property belonging to
the sons of John Oxley, a famous explorer of the early colony
of New South Wales.
Ten years later a road traversed the property and a few
rough huts huddled together in the valley proclaimed the birth
of the village of Wingecarribee.
The region is known for its very distinct seasons and many
tourists find the best time to visit Bowral would be during
either autumn and winter. The trees explode during this time
with bright reds and oranges and the winter air is crisp and
Throughout the year the country roads are littered with
imported European cars or horse trailers on their way to the
next equestrian event.
Regal homes hide down wide streets behind
established gardens. There are coffee shops around
every corner, each of them filled to the brim with
happy locals and excited visitors. Sit back and enjoy
your favourite hot drink while doing some celebrity
Antique stores, art galleries, bookshops and the region's
only independent cinema are some of the draw cards to
Bowral town centre.
Idyllic golf courses attract players of all handicaps. ■
