"Bulbs and planting have already taken place around the
surrounding regions to ensure the whole of the Southern
Highlands is bathed with yellow, yellow, yellow.
"Tourists will be greeted with this sight on their drive into
Bowral. Thanks to our community, this will be the biggest ever."
The level of community involvement is high on the agenda
for Tourism Southern Highlands. It all goes back to the history
of how Tulip Time first came to being.
"It started in 1959 as the Festival of the Flowers," Mr Rosa
said. "In 1961, Wingecarribee Shire Council gardener Barry
Ford got together with several members of the Rotary Club
and said he wanted an event to draw people to come to the
Southern Highlands. The event was created for tourists, but it
has been the locals that's made Tulip Time what it is today."
Whether you're on your way specifically for Tulip Time,
or just passing through the highway between Sydney and
Canberra, Steve Rosa said Tourism Southern Highlands
would cater for every need and want.
"We advise everyone to visit our website for the latest
comprehensive details on Golden Tulip Time," he said.
"That way, people can make the right preparations for
their visit, whether it is for the day, overnight, or for the entire
two-week duration. Tulip Time still is a day with something for
everyone. This will be more true this year than ever before."
